He had lost all motion in his body because of a disease. He could no longer talk to anyone. So they decided to put him on this machine so that he can be able to communicate with his family and friends. This documentary showed the us the viewer how this machine works.

The person connected to the machine is allowed to communicate their thoughts through it. As they think about something it appears on the screen. Others can here their thoughts. He can even text to his children through this device. He appreciates this product.

Another patient is going through the same thing. They have a plug connected to her brain that allows her to communicate with her thoughts. She is able to move objects with her mind. Through the research of monkies they even will use robotic arms soon.

The article was about a new technological advancement that could benefit disabled human beings for the rest of their lives. The idea that scientists are trying to make into a reality is to connect the human brain to a computer. If this process is successful, a disabled human being will be able to operate a computer, communicate, and drive their wheelchair to their destined location. This process can set the bar for many other advances to come and if successful, a disabled person's lifestyle can drastically change forever.

Someone who has benefited from this new advancement is a neuroscientist named Scott Mackler. At the age of 40, he suffered Lou Gherig's disease. In a matter of years, almost his whole body was paralyzed. He only had the movement of his eyes to communicate with people. He soon started using the brain computer interface (BCI) to do all of his talking, making communication easier for him. The BCI comes in a cap that picks up the electrical activity in his brain which shows what he is thinking. He says it takes 20 seconds to select a letter so it takes a while for him to complete a thought. Mackler said that without the BCI, he wouldn't be able to continue to work at the University of Pennsylvania.

These scientists are observing more on this process. At the University of Pittsburgh, scientists are experimenting on monkies. They are putting electrodes in their brains to observe what they are thinking. Scientists concluded that with a certain activity going on in their brain, it connects to the movement of the robotic arm. The Scott Mackler experiment is also being tested on a woman who had a stroke that left her paralyzed physically but not mentally. This experiment is on a verge of becoming something big.

A patient had been paralyzed from a brain disease disabling him from all body motion except for his eyes. He was no longer able to communicate with his family and friends. He did not want to be put on a ventilater. Now he has volunteered to be put on the BCI machine. Although it is a slow process, this advanced technology has enabled him to communicate with his family and friends.

His thoughts are expressed through the BCI. Every letter he thinks of is correctly selected on the screen. These selections of words may take 20 seconds or more for each but this is a greater way of communicating rather than with his eyes. He is much happier with this machine.

The advanced technology of implanting electrodes inside the brain(to get a greater signal for brain cells) has been tested with monkeys allowing them to move a robotic arm with their thoughts. These electrodes are disks that pick up the electrical activity(or unique patterns of the brain) that the brain cells create when they communicate with each other.

Another patient has also been "locked in". She has decided to have her brain directly connected to a computer which allows her to also communicate her thoughts and perform similar tasks like the monkies. Scientists believe that this advanced technology has the potential to lead to paralyzed people using their own body parts again and to controlling robotic arms.

THIS IS A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT HOW PEOLE USE THEIR BRAIN 2 DO EVERYDAY THINGS.IT WAS MAN THAT WAS FAMOUS FOR RUNNIN TRACK AND HE WAS DIAGNOISED WITH AOL. HIS BRAIN WAS LOSING CONNECTION TO THE MUSCLES. HE USES A BCI TO HELP HIM COMMUNICATE WITH OTHERS.

THERE ARE ABOUT 100 SENSORS IN THE MICROCHIP. THERE ARE MANY SCIENTISTS WORKING ON THIS REASEARCH WITH MONKEYS.

THEY DID A TEST ON A MONKEY. THE MONKEY WAS OPERATING AN ARM JUS WITH HIS THOUGHTS. THIS LADY NAMED KATHY IS THE FIRST HUMAN TO HAVE HER BRAIN CONNECTED TO A COMPUTER BECAUSE OF HER DISORDER.SHE CAN PLAY MUSIC AND DO ANYTHING A NORMAL HUMAN CAN DO.

The articles were about a huge step forward in technological advancement with a new invention called a Brain Computer Interface (BCI) & how it has helped those who are not able to communicate with talking or writing.

What it does is that it allows those who have been paralyzed by disease or have any defects with communication to be able to communicate by connecting their brains to a computer which reads their thoughts and types them out on a computer.

This is a really good invention because it now allows those who were not able to talk anymore talk once more and also now allows those people to live their lives again and to allow them to go back to doing the things they once loved to do & enjoy.

There was a man who has become a quadrapalegic. He can no longer move any part of his body. He has a disease that started to attack his body when he turned 40. He said that if his condition ever got so bad that he needed a ventilator, he would rather die.

At first, he could only communicate with his eye movement. Now he has a computer that is able to read his thoughts and translate them into letters. He wears a cap that sends the electric brain currents to the computer and translates them into letters. He is able to communicate through his computer to his family and friends.

He said that he feels better about his condition because he is still able to communicate with his family. he doesnt feel constricted as much and is content and happy with the device

The article was about the technological advancements of science today. Scientist have created a way to enable the disabled. They have developed a system that allows those who have lost all control over their nerves and muscles a way to communicate. They connect a human brain to a computer and by using their thoughts; they are successfully able to communicate.
Scott Macler is an example of this success. At the age of 40 he developed LAS, and his body became paralyzed. He was only able to use his eyes to communicate with people. He soon started using the brain computer interface (BCI) to communicate, making the process easier for him. It picks up the electrical activity in his brain, allowing him to be able to speak. The experiment is also being tested on a woman who suffered a stroke that left her body paralyzed.
At the University of Pittsburg, scientists are doing further studies on monkeys. They are putting electrodes in their brains to observe what they are thinking. They relate the activity in the brain with the ability to move a robotic arm. The experiment is one of the greater innovations in science.

This article was amazing. To know that a person will be able to use a computer to communicate and rely on it to help them daily.
These computers are called BCI (Brain Computer Interface). This machine was used by Scott Pelley. These computers turns his sentences into speech. He types what he wants to say and the computer has the job of saying it for him. This BCI changed Scott's mind about living. He did not want to live because, at first he would not be able to communicate, but now he can.
Despite his speech ability, he still goes to work at the University of Pennsylvania. Scott relies on the computer to help him throughout his daily life. It was stated that he would not be able to live without the computer.

Technology advances everyday. ONe momment an invention is being created to improve the lives of people and the next an upgrade of that previious technology is being applied.

In this article, a man had lost what was most important to him, his ability to communicate with other beings. As a result, technology created a BCI device that allowed him to express his thoughts instead of having other people put words into his mouth.

It amazes me that as humans, we have come a long way with technology. One era we are just beginning to figure out how the brain works, and the next we are manipulating the brain into communicating with people without spoken words.

Scott Mackler at the age of 40 was a mormal man until it was discovered that he had ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. This means that his brain was loosing its connerction to the muscles in his body. This includes his lungs meaining that to keep on living he would be put onto a ventilator.
Today Scott is still alive however his body is not. Since his body ceases to function he can only communicate using his eyes. At least he sould only communicate using his eyes until he found the BCI device. The BCI device allows Scott to communicate with his family as well as the world. Scott uses BCI to talk as well as send text to his sons. Because of BCI Scott has a will to keep living.
The BCI was developed by Dr. Jonathan Wolpaw. This technology is made possible through the use of a cap of electrodes that picks up the brain signals and transmitts them into letters. Many feel that this technology is lead to brain control devices but scientist deny this. An experiment was conducted with a monkey, a set of electrotdes was tranplanted into the monkey's brain. the monkey arm were restrained and its brain was connected to a computer that controls a set of robotic arms and within a few days the monkey coudl operate the arms like they were its own. Cathy Hutchinson, a mentally alvie but physically dead woman volunteered to have the transplant done on her. Due to the transplant Cathy is able to control anything that the computer she is connected to controls.

Scott was a nureologist until one day it was discovered that he hd a disease that was slowly destroying the connection of his brain nerves from the nerves in his body. Scott's mind was fully functional but he just couldn't use his body. The scientist dubbed this condition "locked in."

A new invention called the brain computer interface. This allowes Scott to communicate through a computer. Scott can type words just by thinking them and without even having to lift a finger. The device works by a cap on scotts head that picks up human brain waves.

To take the technology even further scientist are experimenting with monkies by implanting electrodes inside the monky's brain. The electrodes allow the monkies to operate a bionic arm with their mind. Scientits believe this will help now paralyzed people to have bionic limbs controled by thoughts

This article talks about the miracle that has affected Scott Mackler’s life. He was diagnosed with ALS. This disease left him near-total paralysis. He could no longer communicate with his family through speech, they had to rely on code which wasn’t effective enough for Scott’s taste.

A new way of communicating was found for Scott. It was called the “BCI” . It is a sort of brain computer that allows his thoughts to become words. Scott thinks of letters and the computer turns his words into actual speech. It helps because he know better communicate with the world.

The future for BCI is a great one. Researchers hope that it will be used for more than communication. They want to expand its use to controlling wheelchair movements and robots. It can also help those that have suffered from spinal cord injury. If successfully they might be able to move their muscles, which as of now is not possible.
